Job Description

The University of Belize invites applicants for the following Faculty Posts for the academic year August 2017 – July 2018:

Faculty of Education and Arts

Special Education Lecturer

Responsibilities includes but is not limited to:
• Teach Special Education courses in the Teacher Education Programs. These include, but are not limited to Introduction to Special Education, Teaching Strategies for Children with Special Needs and other Education Core courses.
• Assist in the process of program reviews within the department and faculty.
• Serve on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters, and academic issues.
• Develop appropriate teaching resources to support delivery of the curriculum.
• Develop students’ ability to appraise, evaluate and synthesize theories and concepts in terms of their relevance to specific local context of teacher education.
• Advising and mentoring of students.
• Participate in research and development activities.

Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree in Special Education is essential; Ph.D. would be a distinct advantage.
• Minimum of three (3) years in Teacher Education.
• Prospective candidates should have a good command of the English Language. Preference will be given to those candidates who have had experience in research and lecturing at a tertiary institution.

Skills:
• Demonstrate knowledge of the subject matter and the ability to teach education courses.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to conduct research in the academic discipline, and publish findings in professional journals, books and/or electronic media.

Other:
Successful candidate must be:
• Willing to work flexible hours;
• Willing to be assigned work based on need and with appropriate prior knowledge to any UB campus,
• Very cooperative and supportive in faculty initiatives;
• Willing to serve and mentor students.
